Add and manage accounts
Set up an account and understand Today, Including future, and archived accounts.
Overview
An account groups transactions and provides the starting balance for its Ledger and Cash Flow. The account list shows recorded balances, not bank-verified available funds. Open an account to see its Ledger; use its edit button to change account details.
Add an account
- Choose Add New in Accounts.
- Enter a recognizable name and select the account type.
- Enter the opening balance and date for the history you intend to keep.
- Optionally enter a low balance threshold, then choose Save.
The threshold supports low projected balance reminders. It does not itself enable email delivery; select that reminder in Email reminders too.
Understand the two balances
- Today includes the opening balance and recorded transactions dated through today.
- Including future also includes future-dated transactions already entered in the Ledger.
- Unentered scheduled payments are projections, not entered transactions. Review them in Cash Flow.
For a synthetic example, if Today is $600 and a $40 withdrawal is already entered for next week, Including future is $560. A schedule alone is not that future ledger entry.
Archive or restore
Edit an existing account and choose Archive to mark it archived. To find it later, select Archived in Accounts, open its editor, and choose Restore. Archiving is not deletion of the account's transaction history.
Troubleshooting
If balances disagree with your records, check the opening balance, transaction dates, and possible duplicate entries. Changing an opening balance already included in finalized reconciliation is blocked until the affected statements are reopened. Do not change it simply to hide an unexplained difference.
