Share finances with a household
Understand Owner, Editor, and Viewer roles, invitations, and household switching.
Overview
A household is a shared set of financial records. Shared transactions belong to that household, not only to the person who entered them. Your active household and current role determine which records and actions are available.
Understand the roles
- Owner can manage household members and invitations, as well as financial records. Financial backup management and household AI-access settings require an Owner.
- Editor can make permitted financial changes but does not manage household membership or Owner-only settings.
- Viewer can review shared finances but cannot make financial changes.
Membership does not make every member-private item shared. For example, another member's saved CSV import drafts are not yours to open merely because you are an Owner.
Invite or switch
An Owner can open Households, choose Invite member, enter the intended email address, and select the role. Review that role carefully before sending the invitation. An invitation is not the same as an accepted membership.
If you belong to more than one household, choose one in Households and select Switch household. Confirm the household before editing, importing, or restoring data. Switching does not combine their finances.
Change access or leave
Owners can edit members and review invitations. The household must retain an Owner. Leaving also requires another available household, and a sole Owner must arrange another Owner first. Read the leave dialog rather than treating leaving as financial-data deletion.
Troubleshooting
If an action is unavailable, check the active household and your current role. Signing in again does not grant a missing role. If your membership changed while a page was open, reload and check your access. Ask a household Owner about the intended permissions.
