Choose and read a financial report
Select a report, account, and period, and distinguish recorded spending from projections.
Overview
Reports summarize household financial records and planning information. They do not make payments or change transactions. Some reports describe recorded history; others include future expectations. Read the report title, account scope, dates, and calculation labels together.
Choose a report
- Cash Flow Outlook shows daily balances and optional budget reserves.
- Budget Performance compares allocation, actual spending, commitments, and remaining allocation.
- Spending by Category and Payee groups net spending, including refunds.
- Upcoming Payment Commitments shows scheduled occurrences and their recorded status.
- Monthly Money Summary explains opening balance, movements, and closing balance, with transfers separated from income and spending.
- Category Spending Over Time compares category spending across months.
- Bill Cost Changes compares recorded payments to a payee, keeping separate schedules distinct.
- Paycheck-to-Paycheck Coverage groups projected account movements around a selected payday schedule.
Review the scope and detail
- Choose the report and account selection.
- Select a period, or choose Custom and enter From and Through dates.
- Choose Apply. Review any report-specific choices, such as category versus payee grouping or a payday schedule.
- Select a supported detail row to inspect its underlying activity.
For example, a larger recorded bill payment is not necessarily a price increase: it may cover a different period or include another charge. Compare the entries before drawing a conclusion.
Split purchases
Category totals use each purchase's category allocations. Filtering to Groceries shows only the grocery portion of a mixed purchase, while the Ledger retains the full bank transaction. Supporting rows count each matching purchase once, even when several of its split rows match. A purchase can appear in more than one category group, so adding category-group transaction counts is not a distinct purchase count.
Transaction CSV exports distinguish MatchedAmount from TransactionAmount and include IsSplit. The first is the amount within the selected report scope; the second is the complete bank movement. Four-place amounts are retained in the export. Open the Ledger transaction to review individual split notes.
Troubleshooting
Check account and date filters when totals differ from another screen. A selected partial month is not always comparable to a full previous month. Transfers affect account balances but are not ordinary category spending. An entered scheduled payment is not necessarily cleared, and budget reserves are not additional ledger withdrawals.
