Novice Money

From a balance to a plan

How Novice Money works

Start small. Add the records you need, then build a view of the days ahead.

  1. Create your account

Register, then follow the email confirmation link before signing in. Your account starts with its own household.

  2. Add a checking account

Enter the account name and opening balance. Record transactions yourself or import a CSV from your bank.

  3. Bring in your bills

Add scheduled payments and their dates. Set category budgets for spending you want to plan for.

  4. Review Cash Flow

See balances over time, inspect the transactions behind a day, and compare your balance after budgets.

Common questions

Does Novice Money connect directly to my bank?

Not currently. Bank connectivity is planned, but no external provider is integrated. You can enter transactions manually or import a bank CSV today.

How do CSV imports and aliases work?

Select an account and file, confirm the bank's columns, then review transactions before importing. Match bank descriptions to payees with exact, starts-with or contains rules. Reuse saved aliases on later imports, and resume saved drafts when you need more time.

Can I use it with someone else?

Yes. Invite them to your household as a Viewer to see records, an Editor to manage financial records, or an Owner to manage household access and owner actions. A household invitation is different from an invitation to create a separate account.

Who receives reminder emails?

Each household member with a confirmed email can receive reminders. Reminder types default to on; each person can change their preferences, delivery window or pause them, and can unsubscribe from the email footer.

Does entering a scheduled payment pay the bill?

No. It records the payment in your ledger. Pay the bill through your bank or provider and check its actual status there.

How accurate are Cash Flow and debt projections?

They depend on your recorded balances, transactions, schedules and assumptions. Debt balances and interest are estimates between lender balance checks. Review them against your bank and lender records.

What does it cost while testing?

There is no cost during testing and development. People who contribute to testing and quality assurance will be gifted free long-term use; signing up alone does not qualify. See the pricing page for the current policy.
